Summer Theatre from our Youth
On August 6th and 7th, the community will be treated to the second season of the West Haven Summer Youth Theatre. This year, the program, sponsored by the West Haven Council on the Arts and a block grant from the West Haven Community Development Department, has 2 more fantastic productions to offer. Group 1, children ages 10yrs - 13yrs, will present their representation of You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown while Group 2, which spans the ages 14yrs - 18yrs old, is offering up the Andrew Lloyd Webber/ Tim Rice opera Jesus Christ Superstar.
The program got underway on June 23rd when auditions were held to select the nearly 30 youths who would ultimately be cast in the roles necessary to bring these shows to the public. Since that day, every child and teen has been rehearsing their parts, as well as learning the behind the scenes duties that most of us never think about when we see a show. That work will all be worth the 6 week investment when they get to take the stage. Details of show times and admission can be found at the bottom of this notice.
WHCA would like to thank the West Haven Board of Education for making Carrigan Middle School available for the theatre program, as they did last year. We hope to be presenting this program at its permanent home in The West Haven Arts Center in the near future.

CCCT's Visual Artist Resource Guide
The Connecticut Commission on Culture and Tourism asked us to help spread the word on this new resource for visual artists.
The Visual Artist Resource Guide includes a variety of opportunities and resources that are available to Connecticut artists. While the Guide is focused on visual artists, a number of the resources are also relevant to artists of all disciplines. The Guide was created in 2010 to support the “Taking Care of Business - Career Strategies for Visual Artists” conference series that was made possible by the Emily Hall Tremaine Foundation and organized by the Connecticut Office of the Arts (Department of Community and Economic Development) in partnership with ten of the state’s regional cultural service agencies. The Guide was prepared by the Northwest Connecticut Arts Council with final publication support from the Connecticut Office of the Arts (DECD). Users of the Visual Artists Resource Guide should understand that it is not intended to be a comprehensive listing of resources nor does inclusion in the Guide constitute an endorsement by the DECD, Connecticut Office of the Arts, of any individual, organization, web site or content contained therein.
The Visual Arts Resource Guide provides the following categories of information:
· Opportunities: Jobs, Calls for, RFPs, Grants, Commissions
· Residency Programs
· Career Development & Networking
· Promotion & Marketing
· Licensing, Legal & Financial Assistance
· National & Regional Artist Service Organizations
· Connecticut Arts Service Organizations
· Connecticut Art Leagues & Associations
· Connecticut Art Museum & Gallery Listings
